Summer is my favorite season, except for the fact that it exists on a sweltering subway platform where I live in New York City. Your summer shoe says a lot about you: where you’re headed, what you’re doing, and how you plan to spend the day. Which is why a cute, trendy sandal that is also comfortable is so important.

Brands like Miu Miu, Chloé, and The Row have embraced a chunkier, sturdier take on the classic summer sandal, swapping barely-there styles for lug soles, molded footbeds, and orthopedic-inspired silhouettes with actual presence. Miu Miu leaned into clunky sport sandals styled with scrunched socks, while Chloé revived chunky wooden platforms and fisherman sandals with a bohemian feel, but they also offer something we could all use a little more of: foot relief.

From lug sole platforms to the classic Birkenstock, sandals have gotten chunkier, and we couldn’t be more thrilled. Shoes that offer relief make the entire day feel easier, especially if you deal with foot pain, and know just how much the wrong shoe can ruin the day before it’s really even begun.

That emphasis on comfort extends beyond funky soles. This season, easy-on sandals are having a moment, and for good reason. Some are designed with adaptive features in mind, while others simply make getting out the door a little easier. No matter your style, there’s something for everyone on this list. Whether you’re headed to the pool, exploring a new city, or looking for all-day comfort, these slip-on styles deliver on both function and fashion. Read on for our favorites.
