Formerly Cripple Magazine.
Being a generation-z run company, this outlet is naturally a generation z baby. But who is generation z? A few words to describe them; honest, unconformist, empathic, diverse, and autonomous. Young people in this generation have shown themselves to be unafraid of making change and shaking up the table in archaic ideals. They march the streets for what they believe in and are driven to authenticity. Those are the pillars on which this generation has shown itself to be built on, and naturally, we believe that Cripple exemplifies the same.
For most conversations and spaces meant for young disabled people, able-bodied adults continue to dominate these spaces. From doctors to parents, to well-read researchers, these figures often lead conversations about youth and disability in mainstream media, leading to inaccurate portrayals and depictions of young disabled people, and most importantly, spread messages on what it means to be young and disabled.
Which is why, in 2018, when I was 15 years old, I decided to launch Cripple. Cripple is the first-ever media company where young disabled creatives can shift the lens disabled people are viewed — into something more honest, accurate, impactful, and youthful. We do this by telling and reporting stories that are about us ourselves, covering issues that impact us, create content that is representative of us, and nurture a community that has long been ignored.
At its heart, Cripple Media is striving to train and center young disabled media professionals to lead conversations in mainstream media. With that being said, Cripple is entirely self-funded, and it is our intention to continue on and expand for seasons to come. And most importantly, we believe that young disabled creatives deserve to get paid. So head on over here to learn more about how you can help us stay in mainstream media. (We need you!)
And as for right now, stay tuned in with Cripple, and make sure to follow us along on our digital revolution with generation z.
