As a young adult, finding your style is hard enough, and adding a disability to accommodate often makes it even more challenging. There is a limited number of fashionable clothing lines for disabled people, and what is available, is hard to find. Slowly, adaptable clothing companies are appearing, and here are a few we think you should keep an eye out for.

1. Tommy Hilfiger – Adaptive:
Tommy Hilfiger is a well-known fashion brand. Recently, they decided to create a line of adaptive clothing due to Tommy (the founder) having loved ones in his family with autism.

What Can I buy?
They offer clothing for men, women and children. They create pants with easier closers, seated wear, clothing for prosthetics and clothing that is just easier to move around in. They sell your basics, shorts, jeans, tees and dresses. Their clothing prices are roughly in the $50 dollar range, prices are lower and some are higher but nothing too high, nothing over $100. They often have sales too, which is another plus.

Negatives:
Not a huge selection, limited colours and styles.

2. ABL Denim:
Stephanie Alves is the Founder of ABL Denim, who was inspired to create the company because of her brother and stepsister who have developmental and mobility disabilities.

What Can I buy?
Their main focus is adaptable jeans, they sell to men, women and children. They have good prices, jeans are $95 and the shorts are $50.

Negatives:
They only sell jeans and it isn’t a huge variety, I do think they are planning on adding leggings and other items but for now its just jeans.

3. Zappos:
Zappos sells adaptable clothing for many different abilities, this company has the widest selection yet when it comes to the different disabilities it caters for. They sell Nike’s line of adaptable shoes and Tommy Hilfiger’s adaptable clothing collection as well as their own items.

What Can I buy?
They sell to men, women and children. They sell shoes for AFO users, custom clothing for little people, sensory-friendly, easy on and off, almost anything you need. They have a wide variety of sizes and prices. They sell swimwear, handbags, outdoor wear and of course your basics. Their speciality is shoes and that is where they offer the most variety.

Negatives:
Depending on what your buying prices; can be slightly high but nothing too bad.

4. IZ Adaptive:
Canadian fashion designer, Izzy Camilleri, created IZ Adaptive after creating custom pieces for a wheelchair user. Camilleri noticed the lack of accessible clothing available and created this company, IZ Adaptive. She has styled many famous people such as Daniel Radcliffe, Mark Wahlberg, Meryl Streep, Angelina Jolie and David Bowie. Now she focuses on IZ Adaptive.

What can I buy?
IZ Adaptive sells, men, women and unisex adaptive clothing. They sell a wide range of sizes, XS to 3XL. They sell, shirts, dresses, pants, jackets and undergarments. From jeans to button-down coats, they have a wide range of selection in many colour options. For men they even sell suites and they sell face masks with a clear cover to help you communicate with the deaf community. They ship globally and shipping is free for Americans and Canadians spending more than 80$ CAD.

Negatives:
Very, very expensive, the cheapest item there is are t-shirts, and those are $50. Most other products are in the $100 and up category. There is no sale section and they don’t have a wide variety of colours. I would recommend saving up for one of their (expensive) but quality jackets or a dress that you know you will wear for years. This is not a store to buy basics at.

What Can I buy?
They offer adaptable clothing for men and women. The clothing is easier to dress in with additional zippers and opening. They offer clothing with port access and additional pockets. Prices are roughly $85 for a piece.

Negatives:
They only sell activewear and there is not a large selection.
